HaSS Association Australia
HaSS Association Australia Incorporated (HAA Inc.) has been established in 2023 to support the teaching of HaSS and promote HaSS education as an important component of a balanced curriculum in schools. The genesis of the association was the need to have a professional teachers’ association in the area of HaSS to provide a collaborative environment for HaSS educators to work together and promote the HaSS learning area.
Whilst for many years there have been subject association across Australia for history, geography, legal studies, social education, business studies and environmental studies, there has not been a HaSS specific association for teachers to join. To meet this need, a group of educators in South Australia have established HaSS Association Australia (HAA Inc.). In particular, it was a concern that primary and secondary school pre-service educators studying HaSS at university did not have a professional association to join so that they could be a member of a HaSS professional learning community when they commenced their teaching careers. We sincerely hope that HAA Inc. meets the aspirations it has identified for HaSS to grow as a vibrant and important innovative learning area in Australian schools.
