Don’t just rest – dig deeper! Future of SA Curriculum unpacked this October

With Term 3 concluding, public educators across South Australia are encouraged to balance their well-deserved rest with a vital opportunity for professional growth. We are thrilled to announce the next “SA Curriculum for Public Education: Digging Deeper” conference on the 8th of October, a dynamic, hands-on learning session building on the groundwork already laid this year.

This conference is perfectly timed for the school holidays, offering a chance to nurture your professional mind and engage directly with the foundational work shaping the future of teaching and learning in South Australia.

Are you curious? A call to educators

Have you and your site been exploring the SA Curriculum prototypes? Are you curious to learn more, challenge your thinking, and share reflections with others on the same journey? Do you want to hear directly from the Curriculum and Learning team who are leading this critical work?

Whether you are a newcomer to the conversation or a returning attendee, this session has been carefully structured to be fully participatory and informative for all.

SA Curriculum for Public Education: Digging Deeper

Date Wednesday 8th October
Time 8:30 am registration for an 8:45 am start – 1:00 pm
Where Education Development Centre, 4 Milner Street, Hindmarsh
Cost $25 (to assist in covering morning tea and venue costs. All other costs generously donated by Educators SA)

What to expect: A blend of strategy and practice

The half-day conference offers a robust program featuring both high-level strategy and practical classroom application:

1. UNDERSTAND THE BIG PICTURE: Strategy & Purpose

Join us for a powerful conversation with Rod Nancarrow, Executive Director of Curriculum and Learning. He will unpack the latest news on where the SA Curriculum reforms are at, what the Department is learning from the prototyping phase, and why the new curriculum is a vital tool in achieving the core Purpose of Public Education and the Four Areas of Impact. This is your chance to gain essential context and hear the path forward.

2. DIG DEEPER INTO LEARNING AREAS

This session allows educators to connect with the curriculum writers and their peers. You will have the opportunity to delve deeper into a specific Learning Area, discussing what everyone is noticing, trialling, and what the key implementation challenges and successes have been so far. It’s a space for shared reflection and practical inspiration.

3. DIG DEEPER INTO CURRICULUM ASPECTS

A critical component of the new framework involves the interwoven elements of teaching and learning. Attendees will have the choice to focus on one of these three fundamental aspects:

  • Conceptual Understandings
  • Dispositions
  • Capabilities

Learn more about what these elements are and, crucially, what they might look like in action with our learners.

Connect and be informed

Although this session extends the learning conversation from the July School Holidays, the content ensures full participation for everyone. Whether you’ve just started engaging with the prototypes or have been rigorously testing ideas for months, this dynamic, hands-on professional learning session will inspire, inform, and connect public educators across the state.

Secure your spot now and contribute to the vital work of shaping South Australia’s future education.
