The Early Childhood Organisation Inc SA presents the Kate Murdoch Twilight Series with three 1.5 hour sessions! If you are an early career educator or educators with some experience in an inquiry based approach, then this event is for you!
In this three part series, Kath Murdoch will take participants through the fundamentals of using an inquiry based approach to teaching and learning in the early years. Long regarded as a powerful pedagogy for the young learner, inquiry is not a ‘subject’ nor is it simply a way to ‘design a unit’. It is a stance teachers bring across the day and a ‘way of being’ in the classroom. In this series of virtual workshops, Kath will share examples from a range of early years settings, highlight practical strategies for engaging young learners as inquirers as well as share plenty of resources to support you in your own inquiry into an inquiry based approach. All sessions are conducted via Zoom.
Session 1: 29 July 2020. 4:30-6:00pm
What do we mean by inquiry learning? Why is it a powerful approach in the early years classroom? What does it look like? How can we design learning environments to support children as inquirers?
Session 2: 12 August 2020. 4:30-6:00pm
What is the role of the teacher in an inquiry based classroom? What teaching practices can we build into our repertoire? How can we bring an inquiry stance to our teaching across the day?
Session 3: 26 August 2020. 4:30-6:00pm
How do we design for inquiry and connect to the curriculum while still ensuring we honour children’s questions and interests? What does assessment look like in an inquiry approach?
All workshops conducted via zoom. Strictly 1 person to a device. As the workshops are interactive, no shared devices are permitted.
