SAPPA – Amanda Badcock, Early Career Principal Award
Amanda Badcock has demonstrated outstanding leadership as Principal of Aldinga Beach Primary School, guiding her community through a period of significant renewal and growth. With clarity, compassion, and a strong sense of purpose, Amanda has built a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and collective responsibility. Her strategic leadership has strengthened teaching and learning, empowered staff, and re-energised community confidence in the school. Amanda exemplifies the qualities of a reflective, resilient, and future-focused leader—making her a truly deserving recipient of the 2025 SAPPA Early Career Principal Award.
ATASA - Larissa Tallent, Award for Excellence
With over 30 years in agricultural education, Larissa has inspired thousands of students through innovative, hands-on learning and strong industry connections. As Coordinator of the Royal Adelaide Show Learning Centre and long-serving ATASA leader, she has created impactful programs, mentored teachers and students, and strengthened the profession. Her vision, dedication, and leadership have elevated agricultural education across South Australia.
AUSDANCE SA - Robyn Callan, Lifetime Achievement Award
Robyn Callan is a passionate force for dance in South Australia. As a teacher, leader and colleague in schools, the Adelaide Festival Centre, the Graham F. Smith Peace Foundation, and as a champion of Ausdance SA, she has inspired generations. A long-time board member, Robyn’s dedication to celebrating and expanding access to dance has been ground-breaking and unwavering. We honour Robyn’s extraordinary legacy and thank her for shaping an enduring dance future.
AAEE SA - Bruce Baker, Outstanding Service and Commitment
Bruce has been a very committed member of our Chapter for many years now. His skills and breadth of knowledge in a range of areas have contributed to the effective workings of our association. He is our representative and voice to other associations that we align with. His personal dedication and commitment for sustainability is an exemplar to others.
AATD SA – Sandra Di Fava, Award for Excellence
Sandra is an exceptional Teacher of the Deaf whose lived experience as a deaf educator drives her unwavering commitment to inclusion and evidence-based practice. She brings warmth, deep insight and decades of experience to her bilingual classroom, supporting each student to thrive. A generous mentor and thoughtful collaborator, Sandra has also volunteered with AATD(SA) for over 10 years, leading and lifting others through her work on the PD subcommittee and as Treasurer.
ACEL SA – Anita Zocchi, Excellence in Educational Leadership
Anita Zocchi is a dynamic and respected leader in Australian education, with 16 years as Principal across public and independent schools. Her influence spans national and international spheres through her work with the Council of International Schools and leading accreditation teams in Hong Kong and China. As Chair of INTERSPECC, she has helped to shape educational policy in South Australia. Anita’s visionary leadership continues to inspire excellence and collaboration across learning communities.
ACHPER SA – Rick Baldock, Outstanding Lifetime Service Award
In recognition of an outstanding commitment and career advocating for quality Health & Physical Education, mentoring leaders, delivering professional learning, coordinating consultancy services and advocating for the need for Health & Physical Education, a career that has had an impact on many educators.
APACS SA – Rebecca Forrest, Excellence in Student Wellbeing
ince 2023, Rebecca has led Student Wellbeing (ELC Year 12) at Pembroke, building a cohesive team of psychologists, counsellors, an arts therapist, and nurses. She has guided the school’s wellbeing direction post-COVID, delivering programs that foster connection, belonging, and emotional growth. Her calm, insightful leadership has earned trust and respect across the community, and her passion and dedication have made a profoundly positive impact on the school’s wellbeing culture.
ASME SA - Samara Churchett, Outstanding Service
Samara Churchett’s Outstanding Service to ASME SA is evident through her strong leadership in organising and enhancing our digital platforms, actively contributing to the promotion and organisation across various platforms in our highly regarded SACE Space conferences, fostering professional networks among music educators including the Music Teachers of SA social media page, and her ongoing active involvement as Vice Chairperson of the ASME SA Chapter Council.
ATOM SA – Halwyn Bruce, Award for Excellence in Media Education
Hal Bruce is recognised for his visionary leadership and foundational role in establishing ATOM SA. His dedication to advancing media and screen education has shaped countless professional journeys across South Australia. Through his enduring commitment, advocacy, and mentorship, Hal has helped embed the importance of creative and critical media literacy in education. This award honours his legacy and lasting impact on our association and the broader learning community.
BETASA - Tim Williams, Contribution Award
Tim has been an active member of BETASA since moving to South Australia. He has presented at a conference, run Accounting debrief workshops, and provided a range of resources, including practice tests, scenarios, and fun activities, to engage students. Tim has also been involved in mentoring teachers in all sectors and at varying levels of experience. The BETASA committee has appreciated his work on the committee in his most recent role as Secretary.
CLTASA - Zhanhang Hu, Steadfast Contributor Award
Zhanhang is recognised with this award for his steadfast and selfless contributions to the Association. Always working quietly behind the scenes, he supports the maintenance of our official website, manages our Facebook page, and designs promotional booklets for major events. His consistent dedication, reliability, and professionalism ensure the smooth running of our work, making him an invaluable member of our community.
CA3 – Carolyn Hart, Innovation and Excellence Award
Carolyn has excelled to support student abilities and interests in the Fleurieu Peninsula region. She has innovated to establish a Creative Arts pathway in her school by designing curriculum to lead students towards successful application of skills and knowledge for senior secondary. This has enabled students to pursue their individual interests and has increased engagement and opportunities to work collaboratively and produce high quality outcomes.
Drama SA – Daniele Zappia, Outstanding Service Award
Danii Zappia has made an outstanding contribution to Drama SA over the past 10 years. She has served as mentor, workshop presenter, event coordinator, and, for the past five years, treasurer. We would like to acknowledge and celebrate Danii’s outstanding commitment to Drama SA, her friendship, support and the countless hours of volunteer service she has provided. We wish Danii all the best for the future.
ECA SA - Italia Parletta, Significant Advocacy and Service to Families, Children and the Early Childhood Sector
We proudly recognise Italia for over 40 years of exceptional service to Early Childhood Australia (ECA) South Australia and the early childhood profession. Through leadership roles, advocacy, and interdisciplinary practices like the Circle of Security and Marte Meo, she has empowered educators and families to foster meaningful relationships with children. As a Senior Lecturer at TAFE SA, Italia’s mentorship and dedication have left an enduring impact on children, families, and the profession.
EChO SA – Caterina Pennestri, Award for Excellence
Caterina Pennestri, atelierista at St Peter’s Girls’ ELC, is the proud recipient of the EChO Award for Excellence. Celebrated for her inspiring work in early childhood education, Caterina has fostered creativity, curiosity, and expression through the arts. Her influential leadership shaped the acclaimed Mosaic of Marks, Words, Materials exhibition in Adelaide, July, highlighting her dedication to elevating children’s voices and enriching early years education through meaningful, innovative pedagogical practices.
EdTechSA - Jak Baddams, Leader of the Year
Jak is an exemplary teacher who makes use of open-source programs to provide rich and meaningful experiences utilising technologies to support learning. Open-source programs provide an affordable way to engage students from all backgrounds into the computer science space. Jak has provided multiple professional development sessions where he supports his colleagues to engage students in meaningful problem solving for real world contexts.
HAA - Susan Jones, Outstanding Contribution Award
Susan Jones has been integral to the development of HaSS Association Australia from the very beginning. Susan has acted as the secretary and treasurer during the establishment years of the association and her attention to detail and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the association has been an important part of the success of HaSS Association Australia as a new association. Without her drive and quality of administration HAA would have struggled to be established and thrive.
HASS SA - Katie Silva, Inspirational and Supportive Leadership
Katie has provided outstanding leadership for more than 10 years to the association and advanced our profile and support for all educators. Her inclusive approach has ensured we are addressing the needs and provided a voice for all associations that make up our association.
HTASA - Ben Judson, History Teacher of the Year
His contributions have revitalised history at Keith Area School, transforming it into a subject their students eagerly anticipate. His deep care for each learner, dedication to inclusive and creative practices, and ability to inspire both students and colleagues make him a truly exceptional educator.
HEIA SA - Renee Hutton, Home Economics Teacher of the Year
Renee is at the forefront of Home Economics in South Australia. She is currently the head of HEIA SA as well as the head of Technology at Endeavour College. Renee lives and breathes Food Technology. She excels through her innovative curriculum, and her ability to relate and transform her knowledge to students and is extremely generous sharing all that she knows with others. Renee leads HEIA SA contributing significantly to the development of Home Economic teachers across the State. She ensures all teachers have access to quality PD and is passionate about raising the profile of the subject through platforms such as social media and attendance at key educator events. Renee is welcoming of all and is willing to support anyone that finds themselves teaching in this area regardless of experience or training.
INTAN - Kylie Hill, Gotong Royong
Kylie’s unwavering commitment advocating for Indonesian language reflects true gotong royong. She has championed programs across schools, nurtured sister-school connections, and provided local immersive cultural experiences with INTAN and West Fest including food, music and dance. Her passion has sustained Indonesian in schools and inspired students to become teachers, strengthening intercultural understanding and ensuring Indonesia’s language continues to flourish.
JLTASA - Rachel Francis, Hiroshi Haga Teacher Recognition Award
Over her extensive career, Rachel has demonstrated a true love and passion for Japanese language education and has made a profound impact on both students and colleagues in South Australia. Rachel is not only a highly skilled and passionate educator but also a true advocate and leader for Japanese language education. Her vision, commitment, and contribution make her a most deserving recipient of the Hiroshi Haga Teacher Recognition Award.
Kodály - Gaby Freer, Outstanding Mentor in Kodály Inspired Music Education
Gaby Freer has shown unwavering dedication, guidance, and generosity in supporting others to reach their potential. She is generous with her time, and she leads with empathy and encouragement, creating a safe space where growth and confidence thrive. Gaby goes above and beyond to share her knowledge and experience, inspiring those around her with patience, kindness, and wisdom. Her impact extends far beyond mentoring, she empowers others to succeed and believe in themselves.
LMASA - Jane Hosking, Life Membership Award
A dedicated LMASA committee member since 2017, actively supporting professional development, mentoring, and presenting at SASTA, CONASTA, and LMASA events, and Laboratory Manager for 24 years, Jane has enriched science education for staff and students. Jane is a valued member of SASTA and our EdSA rep. She contributes to the Leadership in Hub Group, provides support for early career teachers, and her volunteering reflects her inspiration of science learners. Jane is recognised for outstanding service with Life membership.
LMASA - Rianne Wright, For 30+ years of outstanding service to LMASA
Rianne Wright has generously volunteered over 30 years of dedicated service to the Laboratory Managers Association of SA, since its inception in 1994. Throughout this time, she has tirelessly contributed as Secretary, Treasurer and Public Officer, managing finances, membership, and supporting countless members. Her exceptional commitment, reliability, and leadership have played an integral role in shaping the strength and continuity of the association for three decades.
LETASA - Brett Schenk, Outstanding Contribution and Excellence Award
Since 1998 Brett has taken on multiple positions on the executive committee, supported pre-service educators, early career teachers and experienced teachers new to Legal Studies and taught his classes with vigour and brilliance. He is an outstanding leader who always puts others first.
LETASA - Agnes Medrecki, For 5+ years of outstanding service to LETASA
Agnes is recognised for her five years of dedicated volunteer service as Membership Secretary for the LETASA Executive Committee. Her commitment, attention to detail, and consistent support have strengthened member engagement and ensured smooth operations within the association. Agnes’s reliability and contribution have made a lasting impact, exemplifying the spirit of service and community that underpins LETASA’s success. She has been the backbone of our membership with exceptional record keeping. She has personalised members and prioritises them. LETASA will miss her integrity and teamwork for many years to come.
Language Teachers SA (MLTASA) - Javier Diaz-Martinez, Collegial Action Award
Javier is an inspiring and forward-thinking educator who has provided vision, direction, energy and humour to the Languages teaching field in SA. He brings valuable insight into research trends, understanding the challenges faced, and opportunities presented, for both tertiary Languages and languages programs in schools. Javier is highly collaborative, fostering productive educational partnerships across language associations, schools and universities. His professional and collegial approach in working across sectors and levels of Languages education has redefined relationships and strengthened the identity of Languages in our state.
OSASA - Michael McConnochie, Life Membership
Michael McConnochie has been a dedicated member of the Orff Schulwerk Association of SA for over 20 years, serving as board member, president, and national representative. He co-convened the 2023 national Orff conference here in SA and helped organise the 2010 national conference. Michael is a regular presenter at local workshops, Music Education Strategy courses, and national conferences.
PDA SA - Karena Wilson, Preschool Leader of the Year Award
Generosity, community connections, innovation, and collegial support define Karena’s leadership. She encourages new recruits into the workforce and champions early childhood education as vital to every child’s learning journey. From creating a regional relief educator system to mentoring peers in the use of AI to reduce workload, her leadership uplifts others, drives positive change, and extends far beyond her own site, making her a true leader of leaders.
PMA Maths SA - Kym Brown, Outstanding Contribution to Learning and Teaching
Awarded posthumously to Kym Brown for a lifetime of contribution to learning and teaching across South Australia. His many insightful and innovative publications and presentations challenged and supported educators to better understand the theory and practice of learning and teaching and the powerful role of wellbeing in every learner’s life. His generosity of ideas and support, saw him nurture educators at all stages of their professional journey across South Australia and beyond. His impact will be sadly missed and powerfully remembered.
SAATI - Livia D'Aloia, Distinguished Service Award
Livia has worked consistently and selflessly as Treasurer for the South Australian Association of Teachers of Italian, and she continues to do so. Her dedication, commitment, and long-standing service make her one of the most experienced members of the association today and a truly deserving recipient of the SAATI Distinguished Service Award.
SAETA - Christian Stamatelopoulos, English Teacher of the Year
Christian Stamatelopoulos is an outstanding English teacher who has made significant contributions to SAETA. Christian is the Public Officer, participated in multiple sub-committees of the 2024 AATE/ALEA National Conference and co-convenes the Early Career Teachers workshops. This year, Christian has worked with peers to initiate networking and professional development opportunities for English teachers at regional hubs across South Australia. Christian is a deserving recipient of the SAETA English Teacher of the Year award.
SAFTA - Belinda Roberts, French Teacher of the Year
Belinda Roberts has taught French at Mercedes College since 2002, delivering innovative, rigorous, and engaging IB-aligned programs from Reception to Year 8. A curriculum which has set up hundreds of students to have success in the IB Diploma in French. She coordinates major cultural initiatives, including the Journée Française and the Reception “Voyage à Paris.” As a valued SAFTA committee member, she organises the South Australian Pétanque and poetry competitions, fostering excellence in French education.
SAGTA - Kirsty Hickman-Davis, Outstanding Contribution to the Teaching of German
Kirsty is awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Teaching of German Award in recognition of her exceptional dedication to language education. As past President and Treasurer of the South Australian German Teachers Association, she has demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing the teaching and learning of German. Through her mentorship and guidance, Kirsty has strengthened the German teaching community across the state, helping achieve stronger outcomes for both educators and learners.
SA HALT Network - Rachael Richards, Innovative Educator of the Year
Rachael has been a long-time member of the SA HALT Network and has held several different roles on the committee including her current role on the social committee and her previous role as treasurer. Rachael mentors and supports aspiring HALTs to achieve certification. She has been active as a special education teacher in supporting pre-service teachers and early career teachers to gain confidence in what can be a challenging job.
SASTA - Sarah Todd, 2025 Honour Award
Sarah Todd has made an outstanding contribution to science education through her innovative teaching, environmental projects, and leadership. She inspires students with real-world science connections and empowers teachers through professional learning. Most recently, she led the 2025 Flinders Ranges Ediacara Teacher Scholarship trip, developing resources and sharing knowledge widely, ensuring that South Australian educators and students continue to benefit from these unique learning experiences.
SASEPLA - Louise Wilksch, Experienced Teacher Award
Louise has demonstrated significant influence through innovation and change.
She has developed several initiatives to support student self-regulation and engagement. Her detailed whole- school data tracking system ensures personalised planning and adjustments for all students with disability.
SAWLIS - Karmela Kleinig, Wellbeing Leader of the Year
Karmela has dedicated nearly two decades to transforming wellbeing at Kadina Memorial School. As Senior School Wellbeing Leader she has pioneered mental health programs, embedded Berry Street practices, and championed student voice. Her tireless support ensures every learner feels valued and finishes school with a pathway. Karm has created a thriving, inclusive school culture focussed on empathy, resilience and advocacy, earning recognition as the SAWLIS Wellbeing Leader of the Year.
SLASA - Catherine Barnes, Joan Brewer Award
Catherine is a highly respected Lecturer of Information Management at UniSA and has presented and published both nationally and internationally on AI and metadata. She is committed to librarianship and is a member of various local and international professional committees around school libraries. Catherine is the Teacher Librarian at Endeavour College and is currently studying her PhD on immersive technologies. Catherine is an outstanding recipient of the Joan Brewer Award.
STASA - Marisol Garcia, Spanish Teacher of the Year
Marisol provides outstanding administrative and logistical support to STASA. She stands out for her exceptional reliability and leadership under pressure. She is knowledgeable, approachable, resourceful, and consistently proactive in finding solutions. Her collaborative spirit, attention to detail, and ability to anticipate needs make her an invaluable asset. She uplifts others while driving excellence in both classroom and curriculum leadership.
MTASA - Annabel Cheel, Appreciation of Service and Involvement Award
This award is presented in recognition of a member’s dedicated and collegial involvement in the life of the Music Teachers’ Association of South Australia. It acknowledges her consistent participation, professional spirit, and thoughtful presence at MTASA events, as well as her long-standing contribution to music education. Her engagement reflects a deep commitment to teaching and to the values of connection, respect, and community within the Association.
VAESA - Gail Glasper, Outstanding Contribution to VAESA and Visual Arts Education
For more than a decade, Gail Glasper has been a dedicated and loyal VAESA committee member consistently promoting arts education, particularly within the primary school context. Serving in a variety of roles including secretary and treasurer, Gail has ensured the committee remains informed and aligned with the formalities and legislation as well as the offerings from Educators SA. Gail has a thoughtful and respectful approach to questioning has always been rooted in a deep commitment to the betterment of the subject, making her a reliable voice and a passionate advocate for both the association and arts education more broadly. Gail’s outstanding contribution and unwavering commitment has made her an invaluable member of the committee, whose impact continue to resonate across the educational community.
WSTA - Rachel Wood, Outstanding Contribution to Women's Studies
Rachel Wood has significantly contributed to the establishment of the Women’s Studies Teachers Association. Her dedication and passion for Women’s Studies have benefited the subject in many ways. Rachel’s work as Treasurer and Secretary has been vital to the running of the Association. She is an exemplary Women’s Studies teacher, sharing best practice and supporting Women’s Studies teachers to develop to their potential.
