Hands On Session – Universally supporting students – Presented by Jen Cousins
Jen is a developmental educator, disability advocate, and experienced VET practitioner with more than 25 years leading inclusive education initiatives. Jen has held key strategic roles at TAFE SA—including Principal/Lecturer, National Disability Coordination Officer, Senior Consultant of Educator Practice, and Teaching and Learning Specialist in Accessibility and Inclusive Education—where she championed sector‑wide capability building and the adoption of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Jen now works with Positive Partnerships, facilitating workshops about supporting school aged autistic young people. Jen holds qualifications in Adult, Vocational and Workplace Education, Law, Disability Studies, Professional Writing, and Digital Learning, alongside extensive UDL practitioner training with CAST. Jen is a recognised leader in UDL and accessibility, she regularly delivers professional learning, webinars, and conference presentations across the VET and disability sectors. Jen has contributed to multiple national projects focused on improving outcomes for learners with disability, including content development for several ADCET Academy eLearning Programs. She continues to advocate for educator capability, systemic improvement, and the widespread adoption of UDL to ensure equitable access to high‑quality education.
This session will:
- Provide a practical demonstration of a range of readily accessible tools
- Guided trialling of the tools
- Exploring common challenges and strategies to addressing them
Participants will leave with:
- A basic understanding of how to apply a range of UDL based tools
- A practical understanding of how they can support learner diversity and variability
- Simple strategies to apply these tools immediately
- Handout outlining the tools and applications
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops.
