The HTASA Conference committee is pleased to announce the opening of registrations for our 2025 State Conference: “Accepting History”. Keynote Speakers:
In 2025, we are pleased to welcome the following keynote speakers to the HTASA State Conference.

 Dr. Catherine Kevin: Catherine Kevin earned her PhD in History from Sydney University in 2004. She has held notable positions at SBS Television and the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies, King’s College London. Since 2007, she has been a member of the Flinders History Department. Catherine specialises in Australian and feminist history, focusing on gendered violence, the politics and experience of the reproductive body, and Indigenous-settler relations. Her work is pivotal in understanding these complex historical narratives, contributing significantly to academic discourse and education. 

Thara Brown & Rachel Perkins: Thara Brown and Rachel Perkins are influential cultural leaders dedicated to preserving Aboriginal cultures and amplifying Indigenous voices across Australia. Thara, a proud Koori woman, serves as the General Manager of Programs at Culture is Life, with expertise in teaching and dance. She leads impactful projects and cultural leadership initiatives. Rachel, from the Arrernte and Kalkadoon nations, is a renowned filmmaker with a 30-year career. She founded Blackfella Films, producing award-winning dramas and documentaries, including The Australian Wars in collaboration with Culture is Life. Together, Thara and Rachel champion cultural preservation and empowerment, fostering health and wellness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Workshop offerings:
The HTASA Committee strive to ensure all workshops offered through our training and conferences are relevant, engaging and appropriate for those teaching across all year levels, sites and sectors. We extend our sincere gratitude to all presenters who present workshops, ensuring that we are able to offer such a vibrant and varied program.

In 2025, we are offering three workshop streams. Presenter biographies and workshop schedules can be located at  https://tinyurl.com/HTASAConf2025 and are also attached to this email. During the booking process, workshop selections will be required for each delegate to ensure space and resource availability. Therefore, please share this information with all interested members at your site.

Discounted registration rates:
The HTASA is aware of financial constraints that many sites face. In 2025, we are offering Early Bird tickets until the end of April and the conference committee is offering a 25% discount for sites that book for four delegates in the same registration. We trust that this will be a welcome relief for sites that have several staff who are keen to attend.

Pre-Service Teachers are welcome to attend our conference, with a reduced ticket price offered in recognition to their commitment to the future of History education in South Australia.

Conference timing:
Following feedback from members in 2022, the Conference committee made the decision to alternate State Conference scheduling between weekdays and weekends each year. Additionally, the timing of a conference in Term 3 was untenable for some schools. In 2025, the Conference has fallen on a Saturday. This will ease pressures related to TRT bookings and costs, as well as allow regional delegates the opportunity to travel to Adelaide to attend.  We understand that this may not suit all sites every year, however we hope to accommodate as many members as possible by alternating in this way.
