Written by Dr. Amy Graham, this paper outlines Educators SA’s position on early years learning. Based on evidence and research, this paper makes 15 recommendations which are supported by all professional associations in South Australia that have a major focus on the early years.

Planning for three-year- old preschool in SA: What early years associations want you to know!

This submission explores both the opportunities and qualities, as well as the challenges, tensions and dilemmas that might be faced when offering preschool programs for all three- and-four-year-old children. We present a set of agreed principles, standards and concepts that all represented organisations would like to see considered by the Royal Commission to ensure the commitments made are deliverable and at a standard all South Australian children deserve.

United as a broader coalition for change, this submission and its key messages and recommendations are presented by the following associations: Educators SA, Preschool Directors Association of SA, Early Childhood Australia (SA), Nature Play SA, Early Childhood Organisation SA, and Primary Maths Association SA.

The journey started in 2022, a group of Education Ministers, teachers, principals and other education experts came together for a roundtable to discuss ways to improve teacher supply and retention. This National Teacher Workforce Action Plan outlines both immediate actions and actions that are needed over the medium and longer term in five priority areas: Improving teacher supply, strengthening initial teacher education, keeping the teachers we have, elevating the profession, and
better understanding future teacher workforce needs

The Department for Education is developing a Purpose of Public Education Statement which will define how public education develops over the next decade. This statement will also impact on all public educators and on non-Government schools over time.

In early 2023, more than 250 educators came together in a consultation forum to discuss how Public Education should look like in the future.
