Malcolm McInerney

Malcolm taught in South Australian secondary schools from 1976 – 2007, before taking on the role of Humanities Education Manager in the Department for Education from 2008-2023. In addition to his teaching and Departmental roles, Malcolm has been active in the world of professional teachers’ associations. He has been the President of the Geography Teachers Association of South Australia – GTASA (2004-2008), Chair of the Australian Geography Teachers Association – AGTA (2008-2013), President of the Australian Alliance of Association in Education – AAAE (2012-2017), Vice-President of the Australian Professional Teachers Association – APTA (2018-2022), Vice-President of Educators SA (2017-2022).

He is currently the President of HaSS Association Australia (HAA). In these roles Malcolm has worked with ACARA as a member of the Advisory Panel for the development of the Australian Curriculum: Geography and with Education Services Australia (ESA) as the Executive Officer of the GeogSpace teaching resources. Through his association work, Malcolm has been active since 1999 in supporting Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) teachers through the development of resources and the provision of extensive professional learning across Australia.

Malcolm is presently working as a Teaching Academic and HaSS Curriculum Advisor at the University of South Australia.
