Association: EdTechSA

Karen Butler is a passionate educator and leader in digital technologies, currently serving as Curriculum Manager for the Technologies Learning Area in South Australia’s public education system. With over a decade in leadership roles, she has driven key initiatives including the STEM 500 professional learning program and statewide partnerships with innovators like Maker’s Empire and the University of Adelaide.

A proud primary teacher at heart, Karen is committed to empowering learners to take ownership of their digital identities. As President of EdTechSA, she advocates for meaningful, safe, and effective use of technology in education.

Karen joined the Educators SA Board to deepen her understanding of governance and contribute to the collective voice of educators. She’s especially passionate about supporting young teachers and highlighting the value of professional associations.

Outside of work, Karen’s greatest surprise joy has been her Jack Russell terrier—originally brought home for her foster son, but now a much-loved (and mischievous) member of the family.
