PETAA is offering an all-year round course.

What is this course about?

Text fluency matters because of its relationship to reading comprehension, explicit fluency instruction can support students to decode better, read more fluently and improve reading comprehension. This course unpacks the relationship between automaticity, prosody and text fluency, and provides strategies for teaching and assessing text fluency.

Why participate?

Through completing this course, participants will:

  • Describe how a reader becomes fluent
  • Use a range of teaching strategies to teach text fluency
  • Select appropriate texts for teaching text fluency
  • Measure and assess fluency

  • Literacy Coordinators
  • Early-career and Pre-service teachers

What else do I need to know?

 This is a perfect opportunity for colleagues to work together in a PL session, or independently as part of their professional development practice. This course is self-paced and unmoderated, meaning all participants have access to materials for 365 days from the date they register.

Completing this course comprises 1.5 hours (NSW – Elective PL) of online professional learning addressing standards 1.2.2, 2.1.2 and 2.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
