Outstanding educators acknowledged at World Teachers’ Day Celebration
On Friday night 250 education leaders from all sectors and organisation gathered at the Convention Centre to congratulate the best and finest in the education profession at the Educators SA World Teachers’ Day Celebration. 40 Awards were presented to outstanding educators who had been nominated by their peers as leaders in their profession.
Among the awardees was Hiroshi Haga, who received the World Education Forum (SA) Educators Award as well as Natalie Bond from Port Elliot Primary School and April Hague from Allendale High School who won the Minister’s Arts Awards. Rachel Kielow received the Flinders University Award, the University of Adelaide Award was presented to Tom Barclay, Matthew Maloney won the University of South Australia Award. The Credit Union SA Early Career Teacher Awards were granted to Samantha Francis from Seaford Secondary College and Trent Phillips from Drama SA. Kate Dilger from the SA Science Teachers Association won the Induction and Mentoring Early Careers Award presented by the Teacher Registration Board. The Innovative Association Award went to the Japanese Language Teachers Association of South Australia. The Design and Technology Teachers Association of SA received the Connecting our Education Community Award from Andersons Solicitors. The Teacher Supporting Teachers Award was presented to Mei Turnip from the Indonesian Teacher’s Association.
Many of the awards were presented by Educators SA’s member associations to highlight significant achievements made by individual educators as part of their voluntary contributions to the profession. “It is an important way that you as an education community value and acknowledge the powerful and important role that educators play in the ongoing future of our State”, said Lisa-Jane, President of Educators SA.

World Teachers Day was established by UNESCO in 1994 to draw public attention to the important role of educators in building a better future for the world’s children. The day is celebrated in over 100 countries on 5th October and in Australia we celebrate World Teachers Day on the last Friday of the month.
The Innovative Association Award went to the Japanese Language Teachers Association of South Australia.
