500 educators from all three sectors, 2 keynotes, 60 learning sessions and two days full of provocations – Were you there?
Literacy and Numeracy Forum 2018
On the 27th and 28th August, Educators SA was very proud to host our State’s premier Literacy and Numeracy event at EDC.
The two day learning event received outstanding feedback and was an amazing vehicle for creating opportunities to learn with and from each other and the visiting provocateurs. The theme for the Forum was “Edupreneurs and Game Changers in Literacy and Numeracy” and the Minister kicked off the day by warmly welcoming all educators to the event and speaking about his government’s commitment to this area of learning.
Our first keynote speaker, Eddie Woo, challenged educators to find their “heart for numeracy” and engaged everyone in playing with some mathematics for themselves. The second day began with Misty Adoniou giving us her take on the decline in the Writing Results in SA. It provided an interesting contrast to other interpretations and showed that we do the “basics” quite well but it is the extension of this that we need to now focus on. Misty offered a new alternative for driving this improvement and challenged us to bring the “magic and wonder” back in to the writing process.
One of the changes Educators SA has been focusing on with this event has been to see more connection with and involvement of our associations. It was terrific to have a number of our associations “flying the flag” – many thanks to the Association Presenters from ACHPER, ALEA, VAESA and PMA for getting involved and showing what associations have to offer in the Numeracy and Literacy domain.
Educators SA would like to particularly thank:
- Our two Commercial Partners, Andersons and Credit Union SA
- Our four Education Partners – Department for Education, AISSA, CESA and the SACE Board
- Our Conference Convenor, Kerry Hugo
- Our Advisory Group from the three sectors and our Associations
- Our amazing office team of Sonja and Kerryn for all their extra work to make it happen smoothly
Educators SA is looking forward to growing this event even further in 2019 so let’s hope we can have even more representation from association presenters next year! Check out our Facebook Page for more photos!
